Symonds Yat Night Paddle – Saturday 18 April 2009

This is one of our best night paddles following the Welsh border between Symonds Yat and Monmouth.  The trip is just over five miles long, suitable for anyone who can paddle the distance and would be fine in canoes or kayaks. Night paddling adds to the adventure of the trip but there are a few things to consider.  It will get pretty cold so you will need plenty of layers and some warm clothes for the end.  It would also be a good idea to have a hot flask and some snacks with you in the boat.  You will need to find a way to attach a torch to your helmet but we will be primarily paddling by moonlight (the touch is just there for fiddly bits like getting on etc).  Also attached to your helmet will be a night stick so that we can easily see people and make sure we have not lost anyone (the club will supply these – please bring £1 for this).  Just as an additional safeguard to this, you will also need a waterproof whistle attached to your buoyancy aid to signal for help in the unlikely scenario that you go over and no one notices.
We will meet at Symonds Yat East (details on the web site) at 20:00 hrs.  If you need to borrow a boat you will need to be at the containers in Pershore for 18:30 hrs.  Please let me know if you need equipment so we can ensure that there is sufficient transport for boats and someone around to open up.  It is worth lift sharing to reduce the number of cars needed for shuttling.

If you have any further questions or need equipment please contact Adam on 07977 991141. It would be good to have an idea of numbers by Thursday 16 April (the first river session)

This trip is well worth the effort.
