For those of you who were unfortunate to not make the July weekend then you missed a great event and many thanks to Tina and Paul for all of their hard work in organising it. To read more and to see the first few photos please continue:
Most of us turned up Friday evening to set up camp and put up the gazebo’s before making tea, gathering firewood and settling down around the campfire as a group for a few beverages into the small hours.
On Saturday we split into 2 groups. The first did a 12 mile trip from the toll bridge just upstream of Whitney-on-Wye. We were a group of 8 canoes with both adult and family crews. The weather was great, the river conditions were not too low and we paddled at a leisurely pace with a couple of long breaks and were back at camp for 15:00.
Thank you to the second group for running the ferry for the first group.
The second group did a 3 mile trip from bridge at Bredwardine with a mix of canoes and kayaks. They started later and went at a leisurely pace and also arrived back at camp about 15:00.
A few of us went down stream about 200 yards to receive do some more advanced canoe coaching from Yoda on what is know as Monnington Falls (more of a small rapid).
On Saturday night we played a few silly games and had a great barbecue followed by a few more sedate games and a repeat of Friday night around the camp fire. However we had the accompaniment of a rock band in the adjacent field who were not too bad. For some this turned out to be an even later night than Friday with a couple of people almost seeing the sun rise.
Sunday was a 2 hour session playing at Monnington falls which besides a rapid had a huge rock shelf for people to get out and play and watch. We then went back to break camp and clear up from the previou night before departing.
Can I ask all who where there to get their photo’s to me on any media they have. I can return anything you lend me. We now have 172 pics. The ones on the site are compressed but I have originals.
Hope to see you all again next year.
