Volunteer nominations

Just a final reminder that the Canoe England Volunteer Award nominations close on the 28th June!

Please take the time to nominate someone who deserves to be recognised at your club or centre, it’s our way of saying thank you to just some of the fantastic people who give up their time to help others.

All the details and categories can be found here.

I’d be grateful if you could pass this on to your club members so that all those who might want to nominate someone get the chance.

Worcester District Scouts – Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd June

We could do with a little support for this weekend to assist Worcester Scouts at their annual District Camp at Top Barn if anyone is available.  We will have two canoe groups and two kayak groups to look after with four 1.5hr sessions to cover on Saturday and two sessions 1.5hr sessions on Sunday if we can do it (I’ve not committed to Sunday yet) .

So far I’ve got the following people …

  1. Caroline
  2. John Gregson
  3. Graham (needs to leave by 17:00)
  4. Adam

We really need at least four more to assist and maybe a couple of people to do safety cover for the raft building sessions.  This will be a great opportunity for level one coaches to get some practice, prospective level ones to gain some experience and anyone else to help get 96 plus youngsters on the water!  Anyone helping will need a minimum of FRST and two star but after our recent run on qualifications this should not be a problem.  We can relax this a bit if any of the Juniors want to help (Harry, Oliver, Witherfords, Laura, Ross?).

If you can help for a day or even a half day please let me know by Wednesday evening so we have some time to get some planning in.  As always any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

The weather was looking good for the weekend. Simon and Lucy left after lunch with camping gear and headed off to the Gower. Laura and myself left later that afternoon after work and school.

Spey – The Final Part

Craigellachie to Spey Bay

After a great night in the pub we woke and everyone settled into their routine of breakfast, packing, sorting the tent or bivi, teeth and the facilities. There was a different mood in the air, yes it was a bit chilly but this was different. It was our last day. 5 Days ago when we left Kingussie it seemed so far off, so much to enjoy, so much to take in and now it was nearly over.

A few video clips from the Spey

Here are a few video clip links of Knockando rapid courtesy of Stew and Judy from North Avon CC who we met on a couple of days while paddling the Spey.

Stew says “Mostly of interest to those present, due to my shakiness with new camera in video mode.
And please also pass on our thanks for the shared camp fire at Boat of Brig Campsite. We went on and had a fantastic night out on Loch Vayatie (see photo) and then on Loch Marie which we can recommend.

Nafford 26th May

We had a good session at Nafford on 26th May. We wil be back there on Thursday 6th June. In the mean time here are some great photos from John H that make the action look great and captures a few people cooling down in the water as it was such a nice day.
