Cook Off – Update

So far I about 14 people interested, there is room for more. The concept is for people to get used to paddling to a location, stopping, cooking a meal and tidying up after themselves (Leave only foot prints, take only photos!). And to do this as if your were camping out, that means carrying everything with you, being self sufficient.

Practicing in the garden is great, but there is no substitute for doing it for real.

Have a think about what kind of stove and pots you have. There are lots of options for food and some great websites with suggestions.

I plan to allocated about 1.5 hours for lunch at Wyre Weir. If you have a Tarp please bring it incase it rains and we may have time to have a play with Tarps.

I will confirm final details nearer the time but let me know if you have any questions.

1 day First Aid Course

Hi all,

First Aid is important, not just for paddling but also as a life skill. You never know when it might be needed. So we have organised a 1 day, 8 hour, First Aid ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ course, which is certificated and would encourage as many people to attend as possible, not just coaches or river leaders but everyone. The more people than can do first aid the better.

The 1 day First Aid course will be held on Saturday 31 January at Pershore Riverside Youth Centre. The cost of the course will be £60 per person, but should we get more than 12 people then this cost will be reduced to £50 per person. WKCC has indicated that they are prepared to subsidise this cost, Caroline confirm this.

Places are being offered to WKCC members first and then outside the club, there is a maximum of 24 places available.

If you are interested in attending please let me know, I will start collecting a £10 per person, non refundable deposit, at the beginning of January.

I am confirming the lower age limited for the course so we can get open the course up to our juniors.

If you have any questions please let me know.

December Open boat Paddle & cook off

Sunday 28th December how about a paddle from Fladbury to Pershore and cooking a meal at Wyre Weir?

Thinking of a canoe trip in the future, maybe an overnight trip? Being able to cook a meal and put up shelter is a key aspect any canoe trip. These are skills worth practicing is a familiar environment so when you need them for real they are well rehearsed.

The plan will be to paddle from Fladbury to Pershore and stop at Wyre Weir for each person to cook a meal for themselves and put up a shelter (play with a tarp). Have a think about what you are going to cook, how you are going to cook it, how you are going to wash up and what shelter you are planning in using.

I will firm up on times closer to the date and send out some communications but in the mean time if you are interested then please let me know.
