What a club! The Winter Challenge final tally was 1,221.5 miles – achieved over 26 different locations and with 61 different paddlers involved.
I have submitted this to BCU but don’t know yet how we will compare to other clubs. However we should be proud of ourselves for the number and variety of paddling we have been able to get involved in during the cold dark months at the end of last year.
I’ll announce the individual positions at the Winter Social – there will be prizes! Well done everyone that was involved.
A big thank you to all of you for paddling and a big mention for Caroline for managing all of this on behalf of the club.
Good progress on the Winter Challenge – 2 club paddles this weekend has got us to 839. Its looking tight to hit the 1,000 mark but the holiday season may make it possible to squeeze in some more trips. BCU have e-mailed today to say a paddle on 1st January will count towards the tally – so maybe that will make the difference. I have to submit our details by 5th Jan so if you’ve been holding back from sharing your paddling you have 3 weeks to divulge.
These are the top five:
Max 23 miles
Lou 18 miles
Emma W 15 miles
Harry 9 miles
Jonah 9 miles
Nick 76 miles
Paul C 52 Miles
Graham 48 miles
Clive 41 miles
Rita 39 miles
After another succesful weekend in Brecon we plan to return to The Held bunkhouse.
The dates will be 24th to 26th October 2014. We need to book by 11th November this year. Continue reading “Brecon 2014 !! While stocks last.”
We’re almost half way through the Winter Challenge and as a club, based on the information I have gathered we’ve clocked 371 miles – but I know there’s been some paddling done this weekend and some more planned soon. I don’t know how it compares to other clubs but it seems pretty impressive, boosted substantially by the large number paddling at Brecon.
On the individual mileage front John Gregson is our surprising front-runner having done one long (29 mile) Scottish trip! Remember, the club mile challenge doesn’t have to include club trips so anyone doing outside club paddling should let me know, to see if anyone can challenge John’s single trip.
On the individual places visited front, its a tie between a few contenders; Graham, Matt S and Rita included
Remember there are prizes for the club, and for individuals (to be awarded at the Winter Social) so keep paddling and keep me informed
Here is the online form for the Winter Challenge, please complete the form for every river trip, if one person per trip completes the form this would be great
From 1st October to the 31st December we need people to paddle as many miles as possible and visit as many places as possible. So we’re asking everyone in the club to record all the paddling they do , and also to take records (pictures or GPS records) of their paddling. Places paddled has to be for at least 3 club paddlers but miles is not restricted. Continue reading “Winter Club Challenge 1st October to 31st December. Half Way Update!”

We all met at Upton where Caroline gave us a very interesting talk about the Civil War and how Keith and all the other commanders in the Civil War fought and moved. Continue reading “History and A Seal called Keith, all on a canoe trip”
