Winter Challenge Results – What A Club

We have the results of the BCU Winter Challenge, which positioned us mid way in the several competitions:
– Most miles club – 11th – the winners were Chelmsford 11,046
– Most places – 4th – the winners were Ribble 40
– Most miles individual female – 12th (Rita), the winner from Poole paddled 294 miles
– Most miles individual male – 9th (Nick D), the winner from Chelmsford paddled 434 miles
So well done – its good to see our club up there in a national competition.  And provides some formidable targets for next year!
Regards
Caroline

AGM Tuesday 16th October

Our AGM is fast approaching and will be held on Tuesday 16th October so please put the date in your diary now.

We have a number of Committee positions that will become vacant  and will therefore need to be filled. Without volunteers offering just a few hours of their time each week our Club would not be able to exist, and develop in the future. The roles are not designed to be onerous and the more volunteers we have to help organise the Club the less hours each of us will have to contribute, so think about what skills you have and put them to use them with WKCC and to help us progress to become an even better paddling club.

The roles that are becoming vacant due to other commitments are:

Vice Chairman/woman
New members/Come & Try It
Membership Secretary
Programme Secretary
Junior Rep

If you would like details of what each role involves or to nominate someone (having gained their permission) please speak to one of our existing Committee members (names & contact details are listed on the latest programme) who will be more than willing to help.

Well done to Harry for being the first junior to achieve his Paddle Power Discover.

Well done to Harry for being the first junior to achieve his Paddle Power Discover.

Coach Caroline presented Harry his certificate on Thursday night. Now it’s up to the rest of you to keep working on your Paddle Power awards this summer. See picture below Continue reading “Well done to Harry for being the first junior to achieve his Paddle Power Discover.”

Club Canoes for Sale

Hi we are selling 2 of our current club canoes. They will be 2 that we have selected with the most wear although they are still in very reasonable condition for the price.
We have one 16 foot and one 14 foot canoe to sell.  They are being offered at £275 to club members and as we have had a bit of interest then you need to email Paul Craven by 7th December 2011 stating which boat you are interested in. Paul will hold a draw on Thursday night following the close date at the pool to announce the lucky winners.

There are a few terms and conditions:

  1. If you have not paid this years membership then you are not eligible to enter the draw.
  2. You will have one week after the draw to pay the money in full and take the boat away.

Contact Paul   quartermaster

The money will be put towards buying 2 more new canoes with slightly different characteristics.

Severn Bore – Sunday 20th March

Next Sunday there is a 4star Severn Bore, 0849 at Over Bridge, Gloucester. Does anyone fancy going to surf it. This is an advanced trip for people that want to surf. If you just want to come and watch then it’s one of natures’ amazing sites, well worth the early start to go and see it.

If you would like to go but aren’t sure if you are at the right stage, then ask one of the senior members of the club for their opinion.

We would need to meet at the Over Bridge at 0730ish, be on the water for 0745 and paddle down to a straight bit in the river where we should get the best chance to ride the wave for as long as possible. Timing is everything, and the wave waits for nobody. The wave could be 20mins early or 30mins late.

Directions.

At Junction 11 M5, head for Gloucester on the A40.

At the first round about turn right, still on the A40.

Over the next round about.

Next round about turn right for Maisemore/ Hartpury, A417.

On left there should be a lay by or grass verge to park on.

Please let Ben know Saturday afternoon/ evening what you are doing. There is hopefully a car full going from Worcester at the moment, but depending on who’s coming, that may change.
Contact details sent via text and email.
