Eckington to Twyning

A good paddle this morning. In Canoes Paul, Tina and Nathan; Caroline and son(Gareth). In Kayaks Graham and Jane. A bit windy which as this was in our face most of the way made the whole trip hard work. I managed to forget to brace/ paddle on Strensham weir – and over we went – Gareth will not forgive as he thought I knew what I was doing! Finished with an excellent lunch at the Fleet, and nice time in the playground (Nathan), CAR
To add it’s about 8.5km but into wind all the way it felt like a lot more. Graham

Sunday 18th Change to Programme

Given low water levels I suggest we change PRSC session to be a trip from Eckington to Twyning. PRSC 9:30am to pick up boats. 10:00am at Eckington Bridge to start shuttle. Canoes will be good, but (long) Kayaks would work as well. Contact Caroline if interested

WKCC Wye Canoe Trip

Trip report – Part 1. As some of you know we are doing 100 miles of the River Wye, from Glasbury to Chepstow over 5 days. In total there are 20 paddlers, 14 of whom are doing all 5 days, 1 doing 4 days. The other 5 were only able to do 3 of the days.The first 3 days were eventful, doing 25 miles on day 1, 11 miles on days 2 and the 23 miles on day 3. A full report of the trip will follow and it will be interesting reading. Find out how Paul H ‘frightened’ a guest at a Party at Hereford. How Fitz got Rita wet, how much rain there was on the first night, why Lyndon went over on day 3 and more to come.

What a great 3 days, shame the 5 of us could not make the full trip but I am sure they will have a great time.

Canoe Trip – 21st March – Severn Arley to Bewdley

One of the series, preparing for the 100 mile Wye trip. The focus of this session is to get used to paddling and portaging with laden boats, so come along with your kit and we”ll work on efficient packing, loading and carrying. As well of course as some paddling, with some adjustments to trim.

This is not a long paddle and we’ll be land based for the kit bit – however others in kayaks are welcome, if you can bear with us whilst we work on the canoes.

We will meet at the Car Park off Dog Lane, Bewdley at 10.00am – bottom left hand side of the car park, down by the river. There are roadworks in Bewdley right now, so allow an extra 10 minutes on your journey.

Please let Caroline know if you want to come, and to arrange canoe pick up (probably Saturday morning, but TBC)

Container Storage

A few of us got together at the Riverside Centre on Sunday morning to assemble the Canoe Storage.After clearing out the left hand container we started the assembly. It took longer than we had anticipated but it was worth the effort. The 8 Club Canoes are now stored, as per the picture below, in a sensible and easily accessible manner.

We will take some additional pictures, and we still have to sort out a method of hanging buoyancy aids etc but this was a worthwhile exercise.

Paddle on Sunday 21/02/10

There will now be a paddle on Sunady 21/02/10, meet at the Riverside Center (Map) at 9.30am ready to paddle at 10am.The details of the paddle will be decided based on who turns up. Racking Work

Tomorrow, Sunday 21/02/10, we will be completing the racking for the open boat storage at (Click here for a map) The Riverside Centre. Meet at 9.30am at The Riverside Centre to empty the containers and assemble the racking. This should take only a few hours, but a helping hand would be appreciated. Call Clive on 07725 323393.

Back at the Pool

After a snowy interlude we had a good turn-out on Thursday at the pool, especially the juniors, who arrived in their new hoodies and some with new boats and kit! The junior session was split between a poolside equipment briefing from Clive, with help from Paul H; and a water based session led by Adam, supported by Caroline. The water based skills covered a warm up, some games with sweep strokes and then the session focused on X rescues with teams of 3 rotating roles. After lots of practice the junior session finished with a recovery race – the length of the pool with a swimmer on the back. It was a dead heat between the 2 teams. The senior session was quieter, but provided time to plan the next few weeks of coaching and some of the spring progamme.
