This is a good opportunity to have a social outing in stunning scenery on the River Severn. Open boating often allows non paddlers to get involved in our trips, children, friends and partners and perhaps to entice them into our wonderful world!
I’d like an initial indication of who will be interested as we need to make sure we have enough club boats, and enough transport to get them to the river. Also, depending on the interest we may change the trip which is currently billed as Ironbridge to Bridgnorth. This is a lovely trip but has the challenge of Jackfield rapids (safe but possible wet as we found last year!). There are several alternatives depending on the take up we could change this to be Bridgnorth to Arley or Arley to Bewdley, both pretty trips. Let me know if you have a preference.

Congratulations to some of our juniors who braved the winter elements today for a trip on the Avon from Wyre to the PRSC to complete their Paddle Power qualifications. It was 3c when we finished with a wind chill of about -3c making it tough for all. Here are a few photo’s to get you started with a few more to be added once I receive them. A river rescue symposium is being held on 14-15 March in Llangollen. It’s a well organised event run over 2 days with both theory and practical workshops. It normally gets booked quite quickly. There is a lot of information on the site but if you want to know a bit more then contact Paul Haggett our paddle development officer as I believe he has attended in the past.

Note this is a few weeks before some of us are attending a whitewater safety and rescue course.

The remaining two Midland Region Polo tournaments we are entered in are on SAT 17 JAN and SAT 04 APR at Stratford pool.
If you have played before or fancy a go please contact the Secretary for more details. Spectators are always welcomed which gives you a chance to see the game in action before giving it a go.
We are also looking at setting up some friendly junior matches with Evesham Paddlesport. Contact the Secretary if you are intersted in these.
Hope you had a good Christmas. The new first quarter programme for 2009 is now available on the programme page.
In addition we are planning to go to Symonds Yat this coming Sunday 4th January. The BCU improvement work is now complete. It’s a great place to improve your paddling. We will meet in the car park by the river at Symonds Yat East. At 9:30 a.m. Don’t forget your money for car parking and canoe launch. It was £3 per car all day and £1 per boat. You will need to arrange to bring your own gear. You need to be on the east side which is the side of the Saracens Head or Royal Hotel.
Note this is not a trip more of a park and play on the river and short rapid section. Contact Graham or Clive for more information. If you need any kit you must arrange to collect it yourself from Pershore but must contact Clive to make arrangements by Friday 2nd January. His number is on the programme.

The club will be running two introduction courses during Spring 2009. The courses are intended to provide a friendly and safe introduction to the sport. The junior course (under 14) is based on the British Canoe Union (BCU) Paddle Power Scheme with the senior course covering the BCU One and Two star.
We need to finalise booking by 31 December but places are on a first come first served basis. These places tend to go quickly as we limit the course to ten participants to ensure the best possible coaching. We ideally need payment in advance to secure the place.

If you wish to sign up for a course please complete the Enrolement Form and return it to the Club secretary
We have Nafford on the programme for Sunday 07 Dec but it may be too high. Meet at the containers at 09:30 (i.e. with those who need club kit) and we will make a decision on Nafford or a paddle up to Wyre.
