We had a great paddle today with cracking weather. We got in at the bridge at Cressage and had a gentle paddle down to Jackfield rapids where we stopped for a bit of a play. Only one swimmer (me) when playing and hitting a rock sideways.

We are planning an open boat trip on the upper Severn based on the success of our previous outing from Ironbridge to Bridgenorth. This time we will start further upstream of Ironbridge and paddle down and finish just after Jackfield Rapids just below Ironbridge. The plan is for Sunday 9th August and we plan to be there for a 9:30 start.
We need to urgently know who wishes to go so we can plan transport options and ensure we have sufficient experienced paddlers.
Please contact Caroline to confirm you are coming before the end of Wednesday 5th August.
This years Bretforton Ladies paddle took place at Symonds Yat. We had a group of 9 ladies plus Ashley with paddling experience ranging from none to having been quite a few times before. The group was supported by 5 coaches from WKCC. Weather was pretty good despite the gloomy forecast. After a morning of coaching we adjourned to the Royal Lodge Hotel for lunch and a pint.
In the afternoon we played on the rapids building up the skills starting with breakouts, break ins, ferry gliding and crosses. Eventually leading up to breaking in to the big wave. Quite a few people took a swim but overall they all did brilliantly and should be proud of their achievements on the day.
Here are a few photos taken at the top. Apologies for anyone I missed while doing rescues.
For those of you who were unfortunate to not make the July weekend then you missed a great event and many thanks to Tina and Paul for all of their hard work in organising it. To read more and to see the first few photos please continue: … read more?
Just a quick note to say the next programme is now on the programme page.
The July weekend is nearly here and I am sure you all have questions about it. Everybody who has said they are coming or club members who we have correct emails for will should have received the details.
Any further questions then please ask Tina.
On a bright sunny morning last Sunday 7 members of the club launched into the River Dart at Totnes, aiming to catch the turning tide to take them down to Dartmouth. Brian, Caroline, Tony, Tina and Paul had camped the previous night in a well-sited campsite overlooking the sea near Slapton, and had been joined that morning by Nick and Richard. … read more?
Many thanks to John Heath for trawling his archives and supplying these photos from the seniors river trip in April. Note that there are also some more night paddle photos and Nafford photos in those galleries as well.

This Sundays paddle will be on the Teme starting at Ludlow down to Ashford. The trip is for intermediate paddlers who have done rivers like this or Symonds Yat a few times. There will be 5 reasonable weirs to negotiate. Please contact Graham to confirm that you want to go so we can see if it’s suitable for you and we can be sure we have enough coaches.
We will meet in the car park at the Linney just beside the river at 9:30. This is directly below the castle.

Andy Pitt is running a sponsored cycle ride on Sun 28Jun09 to raise money for the Droitwich Canals and indeed associated events around Droitwich (i.e. helps fund Polo at the Lido!). Andy has helped with grants that benefit our club and events at the Lido will help to improve canoeing and kayaking facilities in the future.
See attached poster and contact Andy if you can help. It will be a good event in a pleasant environment.
