Avon 3 Day Trip

After last year’s 100 mile trip down the Wye, I admit to thinking that this year’s 3 day Avon run was a bit on the tame side given that we were going to cover less than 30 miles in 3 days. Having now completed it I realise that I completely misjudged the purpose of it and underestimated how successful for everybody it would prove to be. … read more?

Avon Weekend

Wow what a fantastic weekend.  Great weather, food and people.  It was our first trip for the Teagle family with the club in the open canoes. Everybody was really helpful and we had a great time from start to finish , even if I may never live down the fact that I brought so much water with me.  Hope you enjoyed the last bottle Fitz !!

Thanks Clive And everyone else who organised the trip, we are looking forward to the next tip.

Claire,Simon, Laura and Lucy.

2 Star Assessment

A good assessment session was held at Pershore today for 10 people, some who are working towards their UKCC L1 coaching qualification. The overall standard was very good with just a few points to finalize for a couple of candidates.
Many thanks to all who came along and enjoyed the sunshine and very cold water.
Have a flick through the 60 photos courtesy of Richard Westlake and see if there are things you can continue to improve on.

OK, things are now getting finalised and those interested should start their planning and kit preparation for this trip. Due to the increase in number, now at 40 people, the format of the trip has changed a bit to accommodate as many people as possible. Severn Bore – Sunday 20th March

Next Sunday there is a 4star Severn Bore, 0849 at Over Bridge, Gloucester. Does anyone fancy going to surf it. This is an advanced trip for people that want to surf. If you just want to come and watch then it’s one of natures’ amazing sites, well worth the early start to go and see it.

If you would like to go but aren’t sure if you are at the right stage, then ask one of the senior members of the club for their opinion.

We would need to meet at the Over Bridge at 0730ish, be on the water for 0745 and paddle down to a straight bit in the river where we should get the best chance to ride the wave for as long as possible. Timing is everything, and the wave waits for nobody. The wave could be 20mins early or 30mins late.

Directions.

At Junction 11 M5, head for Gloucester on the A40.

At the first round about turn right, still on the A40.

Over the next round about.

Next round about turn right for Maisemore/ Hartpury, A417.

On left there should be a lay by or grass verge to park on.

Please let Ben know Saturday afternoon/ evening what you are doing. There is hopefully a car full going from Worcester at the moment, but depending on who’s coming, that may change.
Contact details sent via text and email.

Wye, from Newbridge to Builth

Had a really nice paddle today, from Newbridge to Builth Wells. There were 14 of us, Rita, Wendy & her brother in law, Matt M, John H, Richards W, Graham T, Richard B, Paul C, Tim, Meg, Claire, Nick D & myself. We met at Builth at 10am, sorted ourselves out, did the shuttle and headed off in 5 open boats and 9 kayaks.

We had a really nice day, it was a bit low in places but non the less interesting, and as the Wye always is, fantastic scenery and wildlife. We saw a few Red Kits and a few Buzzards.

There were some very nice sections that with a bit more water would be great. I was an ideal level for this mixed ability group with a bit of something for everyone. Including some poling for those open boaters, we need the practice.

The end rapid on this section was interesting, even through low it was fun, and the drop itself was good, a rescue was required but this was another group that went through.

We had a great day and I would love to do this section again with more water on it. If anyone has any photo can you let me have them and I will post them here.
