It was a great weekend, and on the Saturday we had the perfect weather and conditions for our trip on the Dee, from Glyndyfrdwy to Horseshoe Falls, then we transitioned onto the canal at Horseshore Falls and paddled the Llangollen Canal down to the Eisteddfod Ground.
Once we had sorted the cars and the ferry we set off about 10.30am and very soon it became apparent that the conditions we perfect. The mist and low cloud that was in the valley as where we doing the ferry had cleared leaving a lovely blue sky with the occasional cloud. As we at the beginning of Autumn the trees were changing colour and the leaves were dropping, we had greens, yellows and reds , it was reminiscent of Scotland and parts of New England (USA). The photo does not really do it justice.
As always on this section of the Dee there are a few small rapids and features that make it interesting, and as we went through the Grade 2/3 section, that was a bit washed out, on the left hand side, where 2 waves were merging, Carlos unfortunately took a swim, this was quickly dealt with. The paddle was chased down, boat emptied and not long after Carlos was back in his boat and we were heading to Horseshore falls.
After transitioning to the canal we had to deal with a tourist barge that was not being managed that well, it pushed a few of us into the wall but no injuries J.
So after finishing the trip we got the other cars from the top, back to the hostel, sorted a few things out and went for a coffee then met some other for a beer. After this back to the hostel for a great evening meal cooked by some great club members (thanks, very tasty).
Over all the trip was 13km (10km Glyndyfrdwy to Horseshore Falls, 3km Canal, Horseshore falls to Eisteddfod Ground) and took us 4 hours and 15 minutes.
On the trip was:
Canoe Solo
Clive, Nick , Paul
